What We Do
CSI is all about the
Construction Sciences. If you are interested in the craft of architectural
design, this student organization is for you. Our key efforts include:
-
A Mentoring Program
in which experienced practitioners in the DC professional chapter of CSI
serve as mentors to CUA students taking the capstone "Comprehensive
Building Design Studio", who in turn serve as mentors to CUA freshmen and
sophomores.
-
The Lunchtime in the Locraft
Series of pizza lunches, where architectural
product representatives come to campus and talk about the products they
manufacture, show projects built with them, pass around samples, and
answer questions.
-
Monthly Dinner Meetings
where we join members of the DC Metro professional chapter
of CSI for networking and an always-enlightening presentation on some
topic of professional interest. Other joint activities include
construction site tours and an annual awards banquet.
A Material Samples Library
where actual samples of construction materials and products
are maintained and updated as new products come to market, that can be
borrowed by student CSI members for use in their school projects.
In addition to all this,
members benefit from:
-
Eligibility for
The Franklyn Warner
Fellowship for Balanced Achievement, a $1,000 scholarship
available only to CUA student members of CSI.
-
Subscription to The Construction
Specifier, the best monthly magazine focused
on construction sciences from the designer's perspective.

There's not much
you can do that means more to your professional development than joining
CSI (except, of course, going to school here at CUA) . If you're a
student in the School of Architecture and Planning or the School of
Engineering, you owe it to yourself to check us out.
